WSST April eBlast

“Have you See?”
WSST is drafting a Budget response letter from WSST to Governor, Senators, and the Assembly Representatives. Please go to http://wsst.org/wsst-response-budget-comments-please to view and put down comments for improvement.  We would like this in the mail as soon as possible.

“Conference Up-dates”
The WSST conference in Wisconsin Dells at Kalahari was a tremendous success.  Thank you goes out to our conference committee who put together a fantastic conference.  Big thank you to all of you who came to present, as well.  We have an incredible organization! We can expect a great conference next year as well.  If you would like to help out with the 2012 conference in Madison, please contact the conferences chairs, Kevin Niemi and Denise McCulley.

“Did you Know?”
Milton O. Pella, whom our banquet is named for, named the WSST Foundation in his will.  We are thankful to Dr. Pella for providing so many years in life to this organization, as well as his continued help to our foundation with his memorial donation.

“Your WSST funds in action”
The Foundation’s Front and Center Grants were a hit, once again at this year’s conference.  The Foundation gave away $150 this year.

WSST continues to look for ways to help the organization save money and give its members the biggest bang for their buck.  We will begin test driving an advertisement section for vendors on our webpage to help generate some additional income.

“Favorite Websites”
http://scottstankowski.pbworks.com An anatomy wiki put together by WSST teachers sharing anatomy and physiology ideas for the classroom

http://nobelprize.org/educational/ This site has great online games related to nobel prizes.  I have used the blood typing game many times.

http://symphonyofscience.com/index.html  “The Symphony of Science is a musical project headed by John Boswell, designed to deliver scientific knowledge and philosophy in musical form. Here you can watch music videos, download songs, read lyrics and find links relating to the messages conveyed by the music. The project owes its existence in large measure to the classic PBS Series Cosmos, by Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan, and Steve Soter, as well as all the other featured figures and visuals.”

“Committee Spotlight”
“The WSST Foundation Committee is appointed by the President of WSST. These appointments are usually for a number of years.  A major responsibility of the committee members is to solicit funds from Wisconsin businesses and industries for project grants. The committee also distributes grant and scholarship forms to individuals and at various meetings and conventions. Each spring the committee meets to select, from among applications, those they will fund from Foundation monies or recommend to sponsoring corporations. While the committee is independent from the WSST Board in some ways they must seek their approval for the disbursement of Foundation funds.  WSST Foundation funds can be used only for Foundation purposes and cannot be used for WSST activities.”

This installment of the WSST eBlast was brought to you by Kathy Cady, District VI Director.  She teaches Biology, CAPP Biology, and Human Anatomy and Physiology at Winneconne High School.
