Great Lakes clearinghouse adds a new dimension to a statewide website

already rich in environmental information for teachers in this state:

District 3 Astronomy Opportunities

I have two different opportunities for you in coordination with UW-Sheboygan.

 

2008 Governor's High School Conference

Registration is now open for high school students and teachers to attend the 2008 Governor's High School Conference on the Environment. Student Power: Conserving Your Future with Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy will be held November 12, 2008 in Stevens Point, WI. Up to $300 in travel and substitute teacher stipends are available to each school attending. More information: http://www.uwsp.edu/cnr/wcee/youthconference/.

Astronomy Night at UW-Sheboygan

UW-Sheboygan will be hosting their Fall Astronomy Night (weather permitting) on Thursday, October 2nd. There will be an astronomical poster display and the astronomy group will have the telescopes set up by 7:00 PM. This is in coordination to International Astronomy Day which is on Saturday, October 4th.

District 3 Parnell Tower Hike and Tree Identification Gathering

Come join your fellow district members for a morning hike, a chance to do tree identification and to make connections with other science teachers in the area.   Please bring along your family members and this is also a pet friendly hiking area as long as pets are on on-leash.   WSST will provide a snack after our hike but please provide your own water.  Bring your enthusiasm, good hiking shoes, lesson ideas that you may want to share, and of course, water.

Governor Doyle Signs Great Lakes Basin Compact

Wisconsin has joined the ranks agreeing to manage and protect twenty percent if the world's freshwater by signing the Great Lakes Basin Compact.
