MnSTA Science Meeting in Rochester, March 26-29

The Minnesota Science Teachers Association will be holding its spring meeting in Rochester, Minnesota on March 26-29, 2009. Our association would like to extend an invitation to our fellow colleagues from Wisconsin. As the home to Mayo Clinic there will be special opportunities to tour some of the labs at this internationally known medical center. With our location close to the western Wisconsin border I would like to find ways to announce this meeting to our fellow science teachers from your state. I would appreciate any contacts you may be able to provide to help spread the word or any opportunities to announce the conference in your publications. Your help in this matter would be appreciated.  For more information, visit www.mnsta.org.

Greetings colleagues,

As chair of the Minnesota Science Teachers Association 2009 K-12 spring conference I would like to extend a personal invitation to all Wisconsin science teachers to attend the 2009 conference to be held in Rochester, Minnesota March 27 & 28, 2009.

The theme of the conference is "Celebrating Scientific Revolutions - Educating Science Students For The Future". The year 2009 will mark the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of the telescope and 200th anniversary of Darwin's publication The Origin of the Species. Next year is also the International Year of Astronomy and Congressional national "Year of Science". Rochester is on the cutting edge of scientific research with the Mayo Clinic and IBM. So we have the past, present and future of science education before us.

The conference promises to provide stimulating experiences for teachers at all levels with over 30 exhibitors, numerous presentations, four speakers and an afternoon of "field trips" to local research facillities and nature centers. The Rochester Grand Kahler Hotel will be the host for the conference housing and the Friday evening MnSTA Awards banquet. The program sessions will be at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center.

You will find more information on the conference page of the MnSTA website www.mnsta.org/spring. This include forms for exhibiting, presentation proposal forms and housing information. Please note that if you have a current membership in the WSST you may register for the conference under the discounted MnSTA "member" rate.

We look forward to seeing you at the MnSTA 2009 spring conference in Rochester, March 27 & 28. Please contact me at Rochester Public Schools via email (chhandlon@rochester.k12.mn.us)should you have questions.
