BIO 498/698 Sec 88 Awakening Amphibians & Reptile Weekend Workshop
This weekend workshop provides an introduction to the natural history of the reptiles and amphibians of Wisconsin, with an emphasis on field study of local species. Starting with brief lessons utilizing preserved specimens and call recordings of the Herpetology Collection of the UWSP Museum of Natural History, participants will obtain the necessary preparation to begin field identification and study. Subsequent field trips will require participants to apply this knowledge during the spring emergence of many of these animals from hibernation. The participants will be instructed on the proper methods for the study of natural history in general, including keeping a natural history field journal and a field catalogue of observations. The specific techniques and methods used to study reptiles and amphibians in the field will be demonstrated. Although designed for the non-specialist, those with experience with amphibians and reptiles may benefit from the additional guided field experience.
