Foundation Grants and Awards

The following grants are available:

Founders Grant: (Maximum of $1,000) reimbursement for course work
WSST Project Grant: ($500)

Byerly Grant: ($500) Awarded in this order of preference: 

  • Teacher or school is north of Highway 8,
  • World staff member,
  • Science World teacher participant,
  • WSST member with a worthy project 

Wisconsin Science Partnership Project Grants: ($500 to $1000) The Foundation offers WSST members grant opportunities for classroom projects and activities through the Wisconsin Science Partnership Program (WSPP). WSPP grants are from Wisconsin corporations administered through the WSST Foundation.

  • XCEL ENERGY – recipient must live in an XCEL service area
  • KOHLER – any WI teacher is eligible; recipient from Kohler area is preferred
  • MERCURY MARINE – any WI teacher is eligible; recipient from Fond du Lac area is preferred

Frank Zuerner New Science Teacher Scholarship:

  • This scholarship goes to new teachers of elementary, middle or high school science, who has been recommended as outstanding by at least two other science teachers in her/his school district. An administrator, with credible knowledge of the nominee could also make a recommendation.
  • Purpose: to encourage a new-to-the-profession science teacher who demonstrates potential for teaching and leadership to become involved in and network with others in WSST.

Frank Zuerner new teacher scholarship requirements:

 1) Three or less years of experience in education

 2) Three letters of recommendation

  • One from an administrator
  • Two from other teachers

 3) An essay (1-2 pages double spaced) that addresses the following topics:

  • Dedication to teaching
  • Potential for future leadership in science
  • Past examples of leadership
  • Examples of enthusiasm/passion in the classroom
  • Past/present collaborative efforts
  • Examples of motivating student learning in science
  • Examples of classroom success utilizing best practices, inquiry, critical thinking, 21st century skills, etc.
  • Feel free to discuss any other topic that may be pertinent

 4) Resume 

The scholarship provides the following:

  • Registration for the Spring Convention
  • One day substitute teacher pay
  • Two nights at the convention hotel
  • The Pella Banquet
  • One year's membership in WSST
