Proposed Constitutional Change

The WSST Board of Directors is considering a change to the WSST Constitution to restructure the Board of Directors.  The Board seeks input from WSST members on this proposal.  WSST will take initial comments until September 30th. These comments will be used to revise the proposal.  If the Board of Directors moves forward with the proposal, a final version of the constitutional changes will be published a minimum of 30 days prior to the WSST Annual Meeting, held on Friday, November 10th, 2017. A vote by membership will be held at the annual meeting on the proposed constitution changes

The current Board of Directors is comprised of the President, President-Elect or Retiring President, Secretary, and Seven District Directors.  The District Directors are elected based on geographical districts as shown here

Board of Directors Restructuring Proposal

The responsibilities of the Board will be reconfigured to focus on defined interest areas within science education., while eliminating geographic representation. This proposal will increase the composition of the Board by one Director.

Rationale

The structure of the WSST Board has been configured around geographical districts since its founding.  This structure served a strong communications purpose at that time.  However, the need for geographic representation for communication purposes is no longer a serious issue.  In addition, WSST struggles to identify candidates for Board positions as currently configured. There have only been two contested elections over the past decade.

This proposed restructuring will focus Board positions on areas that they are passionate about.  In addition, this new configuration of Board responsibilities will allow WSST to better serve the science education community in Wisconsin.
