Dear Friends, I read a quote this week from National Geographic Explorer Ellie De Castro that resonated with me, eloquent in its brevity. She said: “Exploration begins at home, not far away.” In a changing world, filled with unforeseen challenges, this sentiment felt close to home in many ways. In my role at the National Geographic Society, I have the great honor of seeing exploration come to life through our educator-pioneers—remarkable individuals who are innovating new ways of teaching so their students can continue learning. Collectively, they are #TeacherStrong. As the back-to-school season gets underway, educators are once again exploring new territory: preparing to teach remotely full-time, in the classroom full-time, or some hybrid of the two models. We listened to hundreds of teachers and to help ease the transition, our team set to work. Our goal is to equip educators with the resources, tools, and support they need to engage and inspire their learners no matter where they are teaching this fall:
#TeacherStrong Toolkit: we encourage educators to use our new toolkit to share their #TeacherStrong stories and strategies with their peers, and join the conversation by tagging @NatGeoEducation.
Curricular Collections: we offer educators free remote-learning resources and activities, including low- and no-tech tools for K-12 students.
