The PhET Interactive Simulations project at the University of Colorado Boulder creates free interactive math and science simulations. PhET sims are based on extensive education research and engage students through an intuitive, game-like environment where students learn through exploration and discovery. The PhET website hosts nearly 150 simulations across all domains of science. Simulations have been created for elementary, middle and high school students.

I’ve used PhET simulations for years when I need to visualize something in physics that doesn’t translate well on paper—like how capacitance actually changes when you move the plates. It’s the kind of free resource that makes you wonder how anyone taught circuits before it existed. At the same time, when I wanted to print a working model of a planetary gear set I designed, I ended up buying the STL base from https://www.gambody.com/ because they had a clean, game-inspired mechanical pack that saved me weeks of trial and error. My advice is simple: use PhET to understand the science behind what you want to build, then grab specific printable files from a marketplace like Gambody if you lack the…
